7AM: Start the day with a sun salutation on the beach. Bring a towel and wear comfy clothes for sunrise yoga at the 3rd Street life-guard shack.
10AM: Walk in the grounds of the Vizcaya Museum and Gardens to marvel at this 100-year-old Renaissance-style villa and its romantic setting. Built as the winter estate of millionaire John Deering, today it is a National Historic Landmark.
NOON: Head to edgy Wynwood. First stop at Panther Coffee on 23rd Street. Then move on to 25th Street to check out the Wynwood Walls by artists Shepard Fairey, Jeff Soto, Kenny Scharf and others.
1:30PM: Lunch at Michael’s Genuine Food & Drink. Be sure to book a table outside to enjoy the relaxed atmosphere. Chef Michael Schwartz has become a fixture in the Design District, with three restaurants under his genuine brand, all using local produce.
2:30PM: Don't leave Wynwood before stopping off at Zak the Baker, whose hip take on old-school Jewish deli cuisine draws hungry crowds craving Zak Stern's freshly baked rye, sourdough, and sesame loaves of bread.
3PM: Support local artists with a visit to the De la Cruz Collection. Rosa and Carlos de la Cruz created this museum in the Design District to show their collection and create opportunities for artists. Then head next door to the Institute of Contemporary Art, Miami where the emphasis on the avant-garde continues. There you'll find cutting-edge work by Miami's own Mark Handforth amidst the sub-tropically serene sitting.
5PM: Take a break at the Buena Vista Deli. And don’t forget the delicious French-style patisseries. With free internet connection, a funky terrace and super-friendly staff this is the cool hangout for everyone in the Design District, from DASH design students to local artists and in-the-know visitors.
6PM: Relax with a sunset massage at The Betsy hotel. The hotel’s Rooftop Spa, in the open air, overlooking the ocean, offers treatments. Bamboo structures, big enough for couples’ massages, lend privacy while peacefully chiming in the wind.
7PM: Head back to Miami Beach, but take a relaxing detour off the major tourist itineraries by grabbing a spot underneath a shady tree here. Then get busy doing nothing within this secluded oasis of greenery.
8PM: Have dinner on the rooftop at Juvia, the restaurant created by a group of culinary heavyweights and a horticulture artist. The menu boasts Japanese, French and Peruvian cuisine, the cocktails are intoxicating and the penthouse setting, with a sophisticated crowd and a sweeping view over Miami, is exactly the best place to be.
