LessI love a good butter garlic shrimp plate, but this truck is next level with their flavors. You’ll find a good handful of trucks and restaurants around the area, but this is definitely a favorite to many. One of Hāwai’i locals’ and natives’ favorite pass times are driving around the island, and Kahuku shrimp trucks are always a mandatory stop. Nothing like digging into a big plate after a long day at the beach.
I may not eat breakfast every morning, but I do love my breakfast foods, and this is just the spot for that. Even if you don’t, this cafe knows how to get down with island classics like fried noodles, different kine loco moco, fried rice, and more. My ideal breakfast always has eggs, bacon, and pancakes. I always go for the breakfast burrito, and I love the lilikoi buttermilk pancakes and strawberry waffles.
It isn’t hard to find good poke on the island. I probably get mine from 7-Eleven more than anywhere else, but these guys definitely don’t lack in quality and freshness. You can always expect one line outside because the poke is so ono, they get plenty raw fish, and they have cooked food options. My go-to is the Spicy Ahi Tempura Bowl, because spicy ahi is a top tier flavor, and the vegetable tempura adds a nice sweet touch and crunchy texture.
I love a good Hawaiian plate, and this place has ALL the classics. The Kalua pig and chicken long rice are some of my favorites. I’m Sāmoan, so squid luau (a kind of stew of coconut milk, diced squid, and taro leaves) was an automatic 10/10 since it’s similar to palusami (coconut milk wrapped in taro leaves). Funnily enough, I hadn’t known there was any squid in it on my first try because the meat is soft and tender. I also love the factory’s desserts, such as the classic haupia, along with the
I absolutely love Mexican cuisine, but then again, who doesn’t? Serg’s has to be one of the few, most authentic spots on the island for Mexican food. The tacos and enchiladas are great and the shrimp tacos are especially popular, of course. I love elotes; it’s hard to find a good Mexican restaurant, let alone a good elote. Dessert isn’t lacking either, my favorites are the fried oreos and churros. Even the vegetarian options are ono.
Bingsu has taken shave ice to the next level for me. Jejubing has all the classic flavors such as strawberry, mango, and green tea, but they also have oreo, tiramisu, and more. I especially love the mango flavor because it is one of my favorite fruits, and the fruits they use are not only fresh, but also perfectly ripe. Jejubing is also right across the beach, so it’s the perfect snack for a hot day.
