Though best known for alpine skiing, Killington, VT remains a hub for the outdoors all year round. Summertime hikes lead to vistas, wildflowers, and waterfalls. Autumn is of course for the foliage, and winter brings a wonderland for snowshoeing.
LessThe Canty Trail to Blue Ridge Mountain is a local favorite hike, and the only trail that reaches the top of this impressive peak. The official summit offers epic views, but if you find the side trail to the west you’ll get an even better view of the town below. Making this hike even more fantastic, there's even a spur trail that leads to a to a large waterfall along the way!
The Bucklin Trail is one way to reach the top of Killington Peak, the second tallest mountain in Vermont. Though you could ride the gondola at Killington Resort, seasoned hikers will certainly prefer this quiet backside route instead. It’s a steady ascent on rocky and rooty trail through the forest, finally emerging on the bald summit. You’ll get views up and down the Green Mountain range, including the state’s highest point––Mount Mansfield––to the north.
The Sherburne Pass Loop is a longer hike that includes the famous Deer Leap Rock, but also wraps around Pico Mountain using part of the Appalachian Trail. You could even get a taste for long-distance hiking by hauling your gear and making this an overnight trip. The loop can begin from one of two trailheads, but the Inn at Long Trail makes the obvious choice if you fancy some refreshment following your hike!
