Are you looking for a weekend getaway from the city, but want to skip the crowds of the more popular tourist destinations? Then Kirkwood, California needs to be on your short list!
LessA quick, easy trail for the entire family, including dogs. Bring your swimsuits and enjoy swimming at the start and the finish of this hike!
The Kirkwood Bike Park is home to 12 different downhill trails, and the run mapped here serves as the primary black-diamond descent down the bike park. This run drops down Vista, and then funnels into the blue Lower Corral trail to finish the descent.
The hike is beautiful but not that easy. Some parts of the road are watery, you even have puddles: bring good shoes with good grip, it could be slippery. Kids love it too. Just beware that most dogs have no leash.
A must-do hike that is less difficult than it seems. You start with the ascent. The higher you go, the more beautiful the views are: you pass Martin Point, you will look out from above Kirkwood Lake, and then you will walk past Glove Rock. You will finish the ascent at Thunder Mountain, where you will have magical 360-degree views of Yosemite.
Thunder Mountain near Kirkwood, California is known as a relatively mellow peak hike—which means that it makes for an excellent mountain peak to summit on your mountain bike! Rocky singletrack that's no problem on foot makes for entertaining rock garden riding on a mountain bike. Make no mistake: the grunt to the top is still strenuous. But that steep climb rewards you with a superb descent!
