Puerto Rican rapper Young Miko is a rising star, as demonstrated by her critically acclaimed 2023 debut LP and a coveted co-sign from global superstar Bad Bunny. Let’s explore her favorite spots in Puerto Rico that hold special memories to her.
Less“Pollo Frito is a classic in the town of San Germán. Especially for the students from the Universidad Interamericana and from the nearby high school. It’s a college town with young students. It was my favorite spot to have lunch in between classes as they have the best prices. I miss it and need to go back.”
“This is one of my favorite restaurants in Rincón. They have the best coconut mojitos, in my opinion. The restaurant has a great view and is family friendly. The reason it’s called the Red Flamboyán is because it’s surrounded by red flamboyant trees, and when they’re in season, there are red petals throughout the restaurant’s floor and it looks beautiful.”
“This is possibly my favorite beach in the whole world. It’s a natural reserve, and it’s a great beach for snorkeling, diving, and surfing. There is also a marina. Even though the beach is well known, it’s usually empty and it feels private. It’s very tranquil. Every time I would get out of school, I would visit the beach.”
“The famous Off the Wall is a classic to visit in the town and well known among locals. You eat delicious food, and they have great lunch specials for students. At night it’s a great hangout because they have karaoke, and this was the place I had my first show as Young Miko, so shout out to Off the Wall. They know how much I love them.”
“It’s my favorite bakery in all of PR, especially the one in Mayagüez, the one I would stop by before work. The staff already knew my order by memory and were the sweetest in the whole world. They always received me with a hug and kiss. And anytime I’m in Mayagüez, I go and visit them.”
“OK, this location is super epic! He who knows, knows. It’s on University Ave in Río Piedras. I would always go after class to drink beer or after winning a game. Honestly, any excuse to go was always a good idea to us. I went a lot during my first years of college while I was at the University of PR in Río Piedras, and I have the best memories with friends there.”
“This is one of the most popular beaches in Aguadilla, on the west side of Puerto Rico. It’s recognized because of the big dock where people love to run and dive to swim. It has some of the bluest and clearest waters I’ve seen. They have a lot of kiosks with local food, and there is always music playing. It’s a great environment for families and always a great time.”
“This is possibly one of my dad’s favorite restaurants. Every chance I get, I try to go. They have a beautiful view, and all the dishes on the menu are delicious. I always recommend it.”
“When I was little, I was raised in the west side of the island, so any time I would go to San Juan, it felt like I was visiting another world, and it always felt special. And specifically here in Old San Juan, which is a very historic location in PR, on the Paseo de la Princesa is where my parents met. They would always bring us, and they would love to share their story with us, and we would eat snow cones. It’s a place everyone needs to visit.”
“This one is very special—according to my mom, this is the place where I took my first steps. Where I learned to walk. This is where I spent all my Night of San Juans, spring breaks, and summers. I would always go with family since I was a child, so it’s a beach that is very special to my entire family. I always recommend it.”
