Forget the satisfaction of earning your turns, these routes are pure lift-accessed, Type-1 fun. As an added bonus, ticking these routes off will take you to some of the best and most famous mountain towns in the world.
LessPerhaps a contender for the most famous ski route in the world, the Vallée Blanche offers excellent off-piste skiing in an absolutely breathtaking setting. Whilst requiring only moderate technical skiing ability, the environment is very serious and should not be underestimated; it is not maintained, secured or controlled, and the route follows extremely crevassed terrain.
A serious but truly exceptional, long and varied ski descent in breathtaking terrain.
Either opt for a longer descent down the glacier from the top of the Girose lift or access the glacier via a short walk to the Col des Ruillans. Both options offer fantastic freeriding on the glacier.
The Grand Couloir is the best known and most obvious of the Trifides couloirs. It is easy to access and is a good warm-up for some of the steeper couloirs in the area. It's worth checking out the conditions out on the way up the cable-car - due to its popularity it is often a mogul run! That said, this is steep skiing and should not be underestimated.
The most popular of the Nordkette classic lines, this is a really exciting, steep couloir which should not be underestimated.
A brilliant and atmospheric line through some big mountain terrain. Ride the Skalnaté Pleso - Lomnické Sedlo chairlift and at the top, hike north-west (continuing in the same direction the chairlift was taking you) for 30 metres to reach a slope which leads into this line.
Drop a car, or have someone ready to pick you up at the end to shuttle you over to town. Depending on the season, you can take a bus otherwise you will need to taxi it back. It should also be noted that if you're looking to 'earn your turns' you could skin up this exact track. While only the short top section makes a great descent, this is still a fun way to finish a day at Vail. You'll end up within a short distance of the food and bars in Minturn, and the Saloon is the place to be at the end.
Lakeside Bowl is a huge area sitting below the large cliffs above. The views found here of the Coast Mountains are breathtaking, and the area receives a ton of sunlight throughout the day. Lakeside Center is the main line through the center of the bowl, and a very popular spot to score some powder.
A local favourite, dropping 400 vertical metres not too far from Thredbo dropping down to Dead Horse Gap car park.
A very popular 1300 metre downhill even for intermediate skiers. There are many, many variants to do.
