Ashley Frangie, a photographer and co-creator of the popular Se Regalan Dudas podcast, is a native of Guadalajara and knows all the spots worth checking out in her hometown. Here are some of her favorite places.
Less“In the middle of the city of Guadalajara, there’s a beautiful park with kilometers of routes for running, walking, and having picnics. On Sundays there is live music. In addition, they have a spectacular botanical garden. The most delicious thing is that when you leave the park, you can have cold coconuts to quench the heat.”
“My favorite coffee in town. Whenever I go, I take three bags of things back home. I love their latte, and their breakfasts are also delicious.”
“Every time I go to Guadalajara, my sister and I go dancing at this place until we drop. If you’re looking for a place to dance, this is a great one. It always has a good atmosphere and they serve good drinks. In addition, next to it there is a cantina that is also one of my favorites.”
“In downtown Guadalajara, there’s this restaurant that offers the best view of the city. It’s located in a square in front of the cathedral, which is one of the most beautiful in Mexico. You can eat delicious fajitas here, as well as a spectacular nieve de limón de garrafa, a special lemon sherbet.”
“The best breakfasts in town, and they’re worth the line. You can’t miss the lonche de pancita sandwich; the salsas and bread are incredible."
“I’ve been going to this place for over 25 years. The grilled cebollitas and the horchata are unmissable. The best tongue and asada tacos in Mexico. There’s always a line, but be patient: You won’t regret it.”
“Located in the Mercado IV Centenario in front of a beautiful chapel, in the Barrio de la Capilla neighborhood. The market is gorgeous and has a communal table you share with other patrons having breaksfast. The encontijadas are spectacular, but my heart goes to their mole.”
“This is the city’s contemporary art museum. Worth the visit, as their exhibitions are always beautiful. Located in downtown Zapopan, which is also worth visiting. You can walk from the museum to the basilica and have something to eat on the way. It’s one of my favorite places in town.”
“This bookstore has titles from independent publishers that at times are difficult to find. There’s an area where you can sit back and have a coffee as you leaf through the pages of a book.”
“A small, delicious café that serves the best latte in town. It’s a cozy place to work in and have meetings. They’re always playing great music and have the best vibes.”
