Adam Faison, star of Freeform’s hit TV show Everything’s Gonna Be Okay, shares some of his favorite places in Los Angeles to have a “groovy” time no matter who you love.
Less“I really dig this place! It’s a Black queer-owned coffee and floral shop that was founded by Maurice Harris. I met him when he was an instructor over at The Sweat Spot [see below] and I must say, this spot is like a window into his extravagant mind. The category is: opulent, delectable realness. You must try their signature Cornmeal Waffle with a Butterfly Tea latte. You won’t regret it.”
“This is one of my favorite watering holes on the East Side. It’s a queer-owned bar where you can drink, hang, and dance the night away. Most notably, Bears in Space and Learn The Words Bitch are two of my favorite resident shindigs. I also have to give special props to their DJs because the music at Akbar is always on point, mixing up disco, house, today’s pop, and 90s pop. They are currently in the process of reopening with outdoor events, so make sure to check their website for the latest."
“Just a few blocks from Akbar in Silverlake is another LA landmark called The Eagle. It definitely caters to folks who love a leather moment, but also think of it as a space where you can be who you want to be. You can dress and express yourself however you like.”
“Precinct is one of the best queer spaces in DTLA, with great dancing and legendary drag performers. It’s a real kiki where strong looks are encouraged! The bar has been impacted by the closures related to the pandemic, so buy their merch and follow them on social media for opening updates!”
“My work schedule changes a lot, and I love that I can go to Plyo virtually any time of the day to get a good workout. It’s a queer-owned gym studio right on La Brea. My personal favorite are the HIIT classes that carry a fun, welcoming vibe. No intimidation nation here.”
“I have to admit that I’m not an avid hiker (I know, controversial in LA) but if there’s one hike I do like, it’s Fryman Canyon in Studio City. It’s a pretty brisk, one-hour loop with great views. But be warned: The first few minutes are a little steep, so feel free to hold off on the conversation til after the downhill if you don’t want to run out of breath like I do.”
“There are so many groovy places to eat here but one of my favorites is Saint Felix over in WeHo. The crowd is fun, the meals are delicious, and I always have a good catch-up with friends. They have great cocktails too!”
