Getting kids out of the house and into the mountains isn't always easy but these hikes will aid you in your task. None of them are too strenuous and all take you through stunning scenery. The mountain huts en route aren't bad either!
LessStart by driving up to the Kemater Alm, a spectacular hut beneath the dramatic Kalkogel mountains. The hut is a popular sledging destination in winter and it can also be skied to from the ski area of Axamer Lizum via some fantastic free ride terrain. In summer it is accessible by car and yet still feels peaceful and remote due to its wonderful location.
Hikes don't get much more family friendly than this - the paths throughout are wide and easy, there's a mountain hut at each end of the hike and in the middle, and there isn't too much ascent to be done. If you want to get your kids into hiking, this is a good place to start.
This is a true classic of Innsbruck and takes you to one of the most celebrated mountain huts in the region - the Arzler Alm. The hut can be reached by following a good jeep track (check out our "Arzler and Umbruggler Alms Loop" bike route for directions) or by taking this slightly tougher but much more enjoyable hiking trail.
With everything from peaceful forests to a bustling Tirolian town and some huge views, this is a gorgeous trip through the lower hills of the Nordkette range.
