LessIn 1979 a group of gay socialists set up Gay's the Word as a community space where all profits were funneled back into the business. Today, three members of staff, Jim MacSweeney, Uli Lenart, and Erica Gillingham, continue to keep the shelves bursting with books and the space used for book and community events. The store has a wide range of fiction, poetry, history, biography, queer studies, graphic & young adult novels as well as badges, DVDs, t-shirts and posters.
In 2015 Hakeem Kazeem, Ama Josephine Budge, and Lasana Shabazz met at the Fringe! Queer Film and Arts Fest Fundraiser. A few conversations later, the idea for The Batty Mama was born. The trio are committed to showcasing Black, queer talent in a space made for queer and trans bodies from "all Black constellations and cultural backgrounds to reclaim booties of colour." The Batty Mama is more than just a bar, it's a virtual and performance art gallery by Black, queer artists.

The couple established their business in 2013 as an independent vegetarian and vegan cafe among a sea of fish and chip joints. Their espresso is freshly roasted, delivered weekly, and the single-origin coffee showcases guest roasteries from around the UK.
Isreali-born chef Yotam Ottolenghi opened ROVI in 2018, with a menu starring smoke, fire, and vegetables. Yotam has infused ROVI with feeling and character in every detail, with warm red notes running throughout the restaurant. Each dish has a perfect balance and combination of flavors, showing Yotam and his team's expertise. Even the most dedicated carivores will be blown away by ROVI's vegetable based menu (but don't worry there are meat options too).
