After growing up in Southampton, singer-songwriter Saint Harison embraced London as a place to explore his artistic instincts. “London is a hub of culture,” he says. “Every part of the city has something unique to offer, which is really inspiring.”
Less“I’ve been going to Lazy Oaf since I was in college—since I was about 16, actually. They have great fashion, and it’s a well-curated store. They do really amazing collaborations with independent artists, and overall, they spread a really positive message with their clothing. Recently, I bought a silk pink hat with horns on it, which I think is the coolest hat I’ve ever bought.”
“Camden Market is where I found my fashion sense. Back in college, my friends and I would often go there. There are so many different things you can pick up there. One really cool item I got was a denim jacket with Elton John on the back. There’s also a lot of art from local artists, and you can find things like pins and accessories.”
“Gloria is an Italian restaurant that I visit every time I want Italian food. The food is amazing, and I especially enjoy the cacio e pepe dish. The desserts and cocktails are also delicious. I recommend requesting to be seated downstairs, where the atmosphere is more unique and intimate. Upon entering the downstairs area, you walk through a red curtain into a dimly lit room with velvet sofas and candles, creating a lovely ambiance.”
“It’s a pizza restaurant with live music, and it’s a great place to go. I used to work here during jam night every Monday to do backing vocals. Interestingly, many notable people visit the restaurant, even though it’s a hidden spot. I once met Janet Jackson there, which was crazy. The restaurant is located downstairs, and Ciro, the owner, has pictures of all the famous people who have visited on the walls. The prices are very affordable too.”
“I love the shops in BOXPARK. I appreciate how they are constantly changing and showcasing local businesses and designers. As a fan of independent, locally owned businesses and unique clothing items, I think BOXPARK does a great job. The food upstairs is also great, and the location itself is a cool place to meet people. They often host music events and other activities, so each visit is unique and exciting.”
“This is basically a huge botanic garden with hundreds of acres of woodland. They have a treetop bridge where you can walk in the treetops. In addition, they have a tropical garden with plants from all over the world. I actually went there on a date, and it was probably the best date I’ve ever been on. It was so wholesome. Definitely go for a picnic on a sunny day.”
“Cyberdog is another clothing store that I love, but it’s located in Camden. The entire store is UV lit, and they have a DJ playing downstairs. The atmosphere is very neon, and all their clothes are cool, made for ravers or club goers. The store is quite big, with multiple floors. It’s a unique shopping experience that’s worth checking out if you’re into that sort of thing.”
“I love drag and like going to drag shows and drag brunches at Dalton Superstore. It’s a lot of fun! Since I prefer going to bed at a reasonable time most nights, I particularly enjoy midday drag shows and discovering new drag artists.”
“Troy Bar is a music venue and home to one of the most renowned jam nights in London, which takes place on a Tuesday. I have seen artists like Jessie J perform there before she became famous. It is a great community. I went there for the first time when I was probably too young to enter, but now I perform there once in a while. A lot of my friends do backing vocals, and it’s a great place to meet and catch up with people.”
“This venue is really cool. I went there for the first time to see Sam Smith when I won tickets for the iTunes Festival. It’s still on my wish list of venues I’d love to go to. It was my first concert in London, and they still put on amazing shows. It’s such a special and unique venue, especially because of how the theater is laid out. The architecture is beautiful, and it’s located in Camden, which is a great area with lots of pubs and social activities to enjoy after a show.”
