Logan Mize knows Kansas like the back of his hand. After a stint in Nashville, the crooner returned to his beloved home state to embrace its rural beauty. "Moving back to Kansas gave me perspective," he says. These are of his favorite KS spots.
Less"When you visit Andale, KS, you’ll notice the beautiful 100-year-old St. Joseph Catholic Church where Jill and I were married. You may stop in at Brunin’s cafe for some wonderful biscuits and gravy, or you may stop in for a pitcher of red beer at The Little Bear. Once you finish up there, you’re invited to walk across the street to LM Apparel to shop for some custom apparel or check out the space I write, record, and work in every day. Can’t wait to see ya!"
"Going 50+ years strong, Mize’s Thriftway has happily served its customers since 1970. While not at its original location on Main Street, they’ve been at their new location on the north side of town since 1990. My grandfather started this grocery store, and it’s been a place of employment for much of my family and many kids who’ve graduated from Clearwater High. It was where I was given my first job unloading produce pallets in my early years."
"Out in the sweeping high prairie landscape of western Kansas, you’ll come across a beautiful scene that looks like it’s out of an old cowboy movie. It sticks out of the vast grasslands like something that belongs in a Utah desert. It would be the perfect place for a music video shoot."
"I’m a big sucker for a steak and a fresh crispy beer with a fun creative atmosphere to enjoy them in. Gella’s is my go-to spot if I’m passing through Hays. The beer is great, and I’ve never had a bad thing on the menu."
"Wanna go cheer on the defending Big 12 champs? Here’s your spot to catch a Kansas State Football home game. Manhattan, KS is always a special town, but a Saturday in the fall feels pretty magical."
"I love breweries and I love great food. This is a great place to get both. It’s a hidden gem and some of the best locally brewed beer I’ve ever had. Ask them for the 50 ounce tomahawk ribeye....no regrets."
"I once made the cover of KANSAS magazine posed in their lush sunflower field. I had to stand on a ladder since the flowers were 10 ft. tall. It was 100+ degrees and there were bees swarming, but it’s a pretty drive if you’ve got the time to kill."
"The hills run north and south through the eastern part of the state, and there are dozens of lookouts, nature areas, hiking and biking trails, and charming little towns to get lost in. It’s not unusual to see cowboys herding cattle on horseback, and the sunsets are second-to-none."
"I love good authentic Thai food with real flavor and spice. Baan Thai is a small joint in a West Wichita strip mall where your waitress and cook are the same person. She will scold you if you order your food too spicy because she doesn’t think you can handle it. It is said she has the hottest Thai food in town, but for me, it’s not about the level of hot - it’s the flavor. Never been disappointed by the food and I’m always entertained by this wonderful woman."
“This is one of Kansas' prettiest lakes. My father-in-law once capsized a boat there. Get your scuba gear and go search the bottom. There's a treasure in the hull of the boat.”
