LessWASHINGTON D.C. (DC): Located in the heart of D.C., Gallaudet University offers interpreting training programs at B.S., M.A., and Ph.D. levels, and remains one of the nation’s leaders for research and industry standards for interpreting. The program has been standing since the 1970s.
ALABAMA (AL): Troy University, an hour away from Montgomery, AL, offers a 4-year B.S. degree program in Interpreting Training. You can also minor in ASL and grow your skills through their master Mentor program.
ARKANSAS (AR): The University of Arkansas at Little Rock, in the heart of the state, offers a 4-year B.A. degree program in Interpretation: ASL/English, and a 2-year A.S. degree program in American Sign Language Studies.
ARIZONA (AZ): Located in Flagstaff, AZ, two hours north of Phoenix, Coconino Community College offers a 2-year A.S. degree program in ASL Interpreting. *
AZ: Phoenix College, under Maricopa Community College, offers a 2-year A.S. degree program in Interpreter Preparation, and also offers a certificate program in Deaf Studies. *
AZ: This Interpreter Preparation program offers an emphasis on Educational Interpreting/ASL Interpreting. That program aims to design to address this shortage in interpreting that affects the elementary and secondary schools most severely. In 2019, the U.S. Department of Education awarded this program a $1.25 million grant to support qualified students to fulfill their degrees with full tuition and stipend money. *
CALIFORNIA (CA): American River College, located in Sacramento, offers a 2-year A.A. degree program in ASL-English Interpreter Preparation. *
CA: Antelope Valley College, north of Los Angeles, offers a 2-year A.S. degree program in Deaf Studies, including interpreting training in the classroom, providing an immersive experience for emerging interpreters. *
CA: California State University - Northridge, located in Los Angeles, offers a 4-year B.S. degree program in Deaf Studies, as well as a concentration of ASL/English Interpreting. The program officially went into operation in 1983.
CA: College of the Canyons, north of Los Angeles, offers a 2-year A.A. degree program in American Sign Language Interpreting. They also provide a Certificate of Specialization: Deaf-Blind Support Service Provider. *
