Known in his local London area of Shoreditch and all across the world for his large-scale murals and his works commissioned by the likes of Netflix and Marvel, Jim Vision takes us along to some of his favourite spots and shows off some of his walls.
Less“I’ve always been a creative person, ever since I was a kid. When I moved to London, I was surrounded by graffiti and street art, and that really inspired me to become a street artist myself. It was the era in which artists like Banksy were just coming up. There were lots of things changing. An exciting time to be in Shoreditch.”
“I love the bacon and cream cheese bagel at the ‘Beigel Shop’ on Brick Lane. The other bagel shop with the white signage two doors down has the best chocolate brownies!”
Go around the corner to Code Street to find this mural. “Lots of creative people were arriving here when I first came here in the early 2000s. We formed a community to go out painting. Nobody was famous yet, and everyone was just doing it for fun.”
“Dom’s Subs has fantastic sub-style sandwiches with great flavours. They’re too big to eat in one go!”
“E. Pellicci is a great local café with amazing Italian food. It’s been here since 1900, and has been run by the same family for generations.”
“My style is a fusion of all of the influences that I picked up over the years, starting with comic books and movie posters, fused with fantastical, psychedelic renaissance paintings. It’s still constantly changing. The same is true for the mediums in which I work: at the beginning of lockdown I taught myself how to use oil paints and started doing some small-scale oil paintings.”
