6AM: Rise and shine with the health-conscious city dwellers that pile into Lumphini Park for a session of yoga, tai chi or impromptu Chinese fan dancing. Look out for a monitor lizard crossing your path.
8AM: Refuel at On Lok Yun, a breakfast institution, with a strong, sweetened coffee or tea and a slice of its speciality: sangkaya toast. For something a little more filling – and less sweet – order the runny eggs with bacon and sausages on the side.
10AM: Gaze at the reflection of the sun in the golden stupas of the Grand Palace. Opulent and dazzling, the palace, with its many temples and shrines, is an embodiment of the reverence Thai people place in the royal family.
NOON : Visit all corners of Thailand at Eathai, Central Embassy’s food court. Start in the northeast with some grilled chicken, go north for a bowl of steamy curried noodles and south with a filling rice salad. Finish off with the ubiquitous mother of all Thai desserts, mango sticky rice.
1PM: Marvel at the fine Thai silk and elaborate patterns on display at Jim Thompson House. Built in the late 1950s to showcase the textile maestro’s sizeable antiques collection, the teak structures today hold a museum, shop and café.
2PM: Update your wardrobe with quietly stylish clothes by star local brand Greyhound. Graphics are a trademark of the label, giving each collection, for both men and women, an artistic twist.
3PM: Savour traditional Thai delights at the Erawan Tea Room. A selection of sweet and savoury bites is served on classic Thai celadon ceramics. Besides tea, the Grand Hyatt Erawan offers rare Black Ivory Coffee, produced in Thailand’s Golden Triangle.
4PM: Relax and revitalize at the ultra-luxurious Pañpuri Organic Spa. Its massages include those using ancient Thai techniques; and all treatments are with its award-winning organic products made with jasmine, lemongrass, ylang ylang, sandalwood and other exotic local ingredients.
6PM: Enjoy a pre-dinner drink at the Sky Bar, sixty-three floors up, in the Lebua hotel. Although the bar is always packed, its near 360 degree views are worth every pointed elbow and misplaced foot. For a more secluded experience, head one flight up to Distil, where you can enjoy a perfectly crafted seasonal cocktail.
8PM: Enjoy modern Thai cuisine with a twist at Le Du, where Culinary Institute of America graduate and Bangkok star chef Ton Tassanakajohn whips up contemporary dishes using a powerful combination of high technical skill, locally sourced ingredients and traditional Thai flavours.
